Public support is crucial

Speaking on More4 News last night, BFF Director Mark Cann, paid tribute to the thousands of people who lined the streets in Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, to pay their respects to the eight British servicemen killed in Afghanistan.

“You can only applaud the people of Wootton Bassett for what they do and how often they’ve done it, and, thank God for them. I mean, it’s a remarkable thing – very solemn, very sad scenes – but thank goodness our returning heroes get that kind of reception.

Chronic shortage of helicopters

The equipment, manning and helicopter argument continues to rage on amidst this flurry of media profile, enabling what, in effect, are some old issues to be revisited. There’s no question in my mind – not least, from visits to both Iraq and Afghanistan over the last few years – that there is a chronic shortage of helicopters which has a significant impact on the manner in which the military is able to operate.

Celebrating the work of The BFF

I’m just off to the airport to pick up some people flying in from America who are attending a party to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The BFF with our Patron, HRH The Prince of Wales. It reminds me of the remarkable breadth of support we get from people all over the world, and the dinner on Monday night will be a celebration of that.

Windsor Castle success

The anniversary dinner at Windsor Castle was a spectacular success and enjoyed by everybody lucky enough to attend.

The Prince of Wales gave an amusing and insightful speech, and paid moving tribute to everyone at The BFF, our supporters and, most importantly, the entertainers who have helped us with the body of work we can be justly proud of over the last ten years.
