Commitment to more defence spending

It was interesting to see some more token politics yesterday with the suggestion that the Conservatives are going to promote the donation of free tickets to various sporting and entertainments events.

This is something we’ve done at The BFF, and for a long time I have been calling for a one-stop website that distributes all discounts and free welfare provisions, by both the MoD and charities, to serving personnel, their families and veterans.

Kite mark for new Service charities

Apologies – it’s been a while since my last blog, but The BFF has been so busy planning shows and doing stuff there’s hardly been a moment. The main news has been the creation of yet more Armed Forces charities, and while I’m in favour of this I do think there needs to be some sort of kite mark of entry to avoid creating yet more organisations who are doing the same thing as others already. More often than not they are formed without doing any research into what’s already out there.

Lettergate

I was interviewed about this last week in regards to the almost vicious criticism the Prime Minister received for his letter of condolence. I believe this was blown out of proportion and used by elements of the media to kick a man when he’s down rather than it being a credible story in its own right.

Forces Deal.com

On Tuesday a brilliant idea was launched in the form of ForcesDeal.com – an insurance comparison website set up by a group of professionals who will donate 70% of its profits from fees to ForcesDeal.com Foundation. This foundation will be arms-length grant-giving charity for other Armed Forces charities, and therefore a unique source of funding for the community of those serving and ex-serving military personnel whom we all admire so much.
