Greece show for HMS Argyll

March 4, 2019

The BFF travelled to Greece to entertain the men and women of HMS Argyll.

The 180-strong crew have been on deployment since June 2018 but had a run ashore when they came into the port of Piraeus.

Comedians Craig Campbell, John Moloney, Tim Clark and Matt Stellingwerth provided plenty of laughs while the music and sing-a-long rock anthems came courtesy of Jules Nelson.

It was a great evening of entertainment providing a welcome opportunity for the crew to let off a little steam and have some fun after months of hard work.

“Argyll’s nine month deployment has been long but hugely successful; encompassing three Operaional Theatres, three oceans and 19 port visits,” said Commanding Officer Toby Shaughnessy. “Events like the BFF show have certainly made our time away from families more bearable, and a unique opportunity for all the ship’s company to enjoy an evening together.

“The hard work that the charity is prepared to put in does certainly not go unnoticed and we truly thank all of you involved.”

HMS Argyll’s Lt James Hartley added: “It was an incredible event that everyone thoroughly enjoyed – greatest of thanks for a fantastic evening.”

HMS Argyll has conducted a deployment of two halves – starting in a Maritime Security patrol deployment in the Middle East supporting UK MCCC and the Combined Maritime Forces; the second half being a Defence Engagement in the Far East, an area the UK and Royal Navy hasn’t been visiting regularly until last year.

Major events haveincluded security escorts of the Babel Mendeb Strait in the high threat area off the coast of Yemen; Counter Narcotics partol and boarding in the Indian Ocean; exercises with the Pakistan Navy, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the US; and UNSCR Enforcement Operations in the East China Sea.

The BFF show for HMS Argyll in Greece came just a week after a BFF show for HMS Dragon in Dubai.
