Scrapper’s Cup invitation
August 15, 2017
Rugby League fans are in for a real treat this Saturday with the annual Scrapper’s Cup hosted by Sherburn Bears ARLFC.
Leeds Rhino legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan is MC for the day which is raising money for the British Forces Foundation.
The Army’s Catterick Crusaders will be making their debut on Bear territory in the battle to take home the ultimate prize.
The Scrapper’s Cup first launched in 2016 to celebrate the life of local legend Steve ‘Scrapper’ Carter MBE, a former Regimental Sergeant Major with the West Yorkshire Tank Regiment of the Royal Dragoon Guards. It is now an annual charity event that unites the village of Sherburn In Elmet through fun activities for all the family and a great tournament of rugby.
Mr Carter’s daughter Robyn, who organises the event, told The Press: “I am honoured that we have been able to create such a great day for the community to enjoy and raise money for such great causes in my dad’s name.
“My dad will always be my hero and still is to so many, he was the biggest motivation for everyone to be the best they can be and constantly went out of his way to help and support whoever he could so it is only right that I continue to do so on his behalf.”
The event takes place between 12 noon and 17.00 on Saturday at Sherburn Bears ARLFC, Eversley Park, Sherburn In Elmet, LS25 6BA. Check out facebook.com/ScrappersCup/ for more details or visit https://www.scrapperscup.com/.
