ATR charity boxing gala - 2004

THE British Forces Foundation
was floored by the success of the charity boxing gala at the Army Training
Regiment Winchester. The 2004 event proved even more profitable than the
previous years raising a knockout £27,000. These proceeds
were to be split equally between the BFF and the Army Benevolent Fund. Unlike the 2003 gala, this was a true international
affair with the Army squad squaring up to the Scottish national amateur
team. The visitors handed out a boxing lesson at the start
of the evening and stormed into a commanding four bouts to nil lead.
But the Armys never-say-die spirit didn't waver. In the most dramatic of comebacks the Army team went
on to win all five remaining bouts and secure what had looked a most
unlikely victory. The spectactors at ringside including Britain's
former world champion John Conteh were gripped by the action
and showed their full appreciation for the boxers. Director of The British Forces Foundation, Mark Cann,
said: The evening was great fun and a great success in terms of
fundraising. The boxing was of a really high standard and the whole event was very well organised. The BFF is so grateful to the Army Training Regiment, Winchester, and delighted to be part of such a happy and successful occasion. |
