Serving away from home and loved ones, often in isolated locations in austere environments with poor amenities and communications in itself is a challenge; not to mention when it’s exhausting, lonely and frightening. Contact with home in the form of a BFF show is vital for morale and unit cohesion, breaking the monotony of the tour, changing the conversation whilst expressing the nations support, pride and admiration.
The British Forces Foundation was established to boost the morale of British servicemen and women – principally on operations, but all over the world – primarily through top-quality entertainment with popular, international stars. The shows, and the Charity’s other projects, convey the gratitude of the British public for the work they do and the sacrifices they make.

The spectacular 25th Anniversary Ball was a truly memorable and extraordinarily successful event - the perfect celebration to mark this special milestone in The British Forces Foundation’s history. Breathtaking entertainment and exquisite dining in the stunning surroundings of the Old War Office, Whitehall, delighted all those there supporting the Charity. The event, brought together through the vision and drive of BFF Trustee and internationally-acclaimed designer Katharine Pooley and her team, showcased the importance of the work of the BFF and highlighted its achievements through the years.
High morale and strong unit cohesion - the focus of BFF work - are crucial factors in the prevention of stress, mental fatigue and trauma among servicemen and women, according to a report by Professor Edgar Jones from the institute of Psychology, Kings College London. He found that entertainment plays an important role in sustaining morale, therefore helping to protect those in our Armed Forces against psychological disorders.
