As Warrant Officer to the Fleet Commander, WO1 Claire Robson serves as the principal advisor to VAdm Steve Moorhouse CBE on matters affecting non-commissioned members (NCM) in the Alliance, while part of a team that provides the command’s force structure and staff with NCM and junior officer development, utilisation and engagement.
Claire joined the Royal Navy in 1997 as a Junior Operator Mechanic Underwater Warfare. Her early career included deployments on HMS Coventry and HMS Cornwall, supporting Operations TELIC and KIPION, NATO taskings, and a global deployment visiting no less than 34 countries. She later served on HMS Kent, contributing to award-winning Anti-Submarine Warfare operations. In 2007, following these deployments, she was selected to become a Phase 1 Instructor at HMS Raleigh serving in Drake Division.
In 2009, she started her career in Royal Navy Family and People Support (RN FPS). Serving in various locations as a Specialist Welfare Worker one of note was at Hamworthy Barracks whilst undertaking her Social Work degree. She was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and moved to the RN FPS office in Liverpool in 2013.
Throughout her time with RN FPS, she was undertaking the visiting officer role to support personnel and families affected by Operation HERRICK. Later, at HMS Nelson, she played a key role as the Specialist Welfare Worker Course instructor, training both RN and ARMY to deliver specialist support to our personnel and families in the UK and on operations. On promotion to Warrant Officer, she established a new role within the RN FPS East team, continuing to support staff and provide Command-level support and briefs to Overseas Commands, PJHQ, Hamworthy Barracks, HMS Sultan, HMS Collingwood, RNLA, and HMS Nelson.
In 2023, she was honoured to be selected as the first Executive Warrant Officer to Director People and Training, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping policy, mentoring senior leaders, and driving initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and personnel wellbeing.
WO1 Robson lives in Gosport with her husband, a Royal Navy veteran, and their daughter aged 12. Her two adult stepsons are both Royal Marine veterans. She is a committed supporter of Service charities and has previously served as a trustee of the Naval Children’s Charity and the Royal Naval Association.
