A Christmas Carol exclusive screening

6th December 2009

More than 200 serving personnel and their families in the London area enjoyed an exclusive screening of the latest Disney epic A Christmas Carol.

It took place at the Haymarket Cineworld which opened its doors – and the all-important popcorn counter – on a Sunday morning for the Armed Forces' special event.

The film proved a huge hit for all those lucky enough to get tickets and they were even allowed to get to keep the 3D glasses.

Michele Easters, whose husband is serving with 1st Grenadier Guards, took her three eldest children (aged nine, seven and five years) to the screening. "I would like to thank the people who organised and funded the trip to Haymarket Cineworld cinema for forces families to see Disney's A Christmas Carol," she said. "We all thoroughly enjoyed the day - and especially our first 3D experience.

"Things like this mean a great deal to children who are missing their parents due to serving overseas with the Armed Forces and the opportunity to have a fun day and catch up with other families in the same situation is extremely beneficial.

"I hope you realise what a huge thing it is to do something like this, although it seems so easy, and that you endeavour to repeat this for the children who will be in our situation next Christmas period. I am very grateful that we are included in this and know my husband is too; it is a good morale boost for our troops to know that organisations such as yours are doing their bit to help out their families."

There were also words of praise from Lorna Oldham, wife of LSgt Malcolm Oldham of 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards. "What a lovely day and a lovely gesture from The British Forces Foundation and Cineworld. The cinema itself was lovely, the staff so nice and the film was brilliant.

"When we received the offer for the tickets it was so kind and so nice to know that these types of days are organised for families like mine that are missing an important part of our family, and I know my husband is happy that my son and I are being taken care of so well, not only by our Battalion Welfare but by groups like The BFF."

The British Forces Foundation would like to pay tribute to Cineworld, Disney and BAFTA for organising the event and making it such a great success.

Cineworld Cinemas has also teamed up with the Charity to support its morale-boosting work with an exclusive '2 for 1' cinema ticket for members of the Armed Forces.

The voucher, which is being distributed by The BFF, is valid until 30th April 2010 and entitles the holder to receive one free ticket when purchasing another ticket ticket of equal or greater value to the same performance.
