JIM Davidson OBE and Katherine Jenkins flew into Afghanistan with The British Forces Foundation on February 12 to perform two outstanding shows sponsored by BAE Systems.

During their whirlwind visit, The BFF Founder and BFF Trustee entertained almost 2,000 British servicemen and women, including the Chief of the Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup.

The pair arrived in Kandahar via military transport and were then flown by helicopter to the first venue - the cook house in Lashkar Gar.

It was a race against time for The British Forces Foundation's technical team to get the stage and equipment set up in time.

The audience of 400 or so troops lapped up the concert and showed their appreciation of the performers.

But there was little time to soak up the plaudits as The BFF roadshow had to break down the stage and equipment and fly to Bastion to do it all over again.

This time more than 1,500 servicemen and women - including some Danes and Americans alongside the British - packed the venue. The show was described as a "barn-stormer" with both Jim and Katherine on excellent form.

A Captain in the Royal Marines, who was in the audience, wrote to Katherine Jenkins to thank her for supporting The BFF, and to say what a great organisation it is.

"This was the first opportunity that I have had to attend one of the shows, and I have to say that it exceeded all expectations," he wrote. "You and and Jim presented a wonderful window when reality ceased to exist for all of us who attended."
