Daniel Craig surprised UK troops serving in Afghanistan with a visit to Camp Bastion.

The James Bond star introduced the latest 007 film Skyfall to 800 soldiers, sailors and airmen who had gathered to watch the movie on Sunday.

The actor was given a tour of the camp where he met soldiers and tested out some of the equipment used by the troops – including some of the machine guns used by UK forces.

Craig was driven around the camp in a Foxhound vehicle by Warrant Officer Class 1 Rob Ingham. "We get quite a lot of visitors here, but having James Bond was special," Ingham said.

The star also met staff and patients at the Bastion Role 3 Hospital.

Private Scott Craggs, 23, from Newcastle, a Combat Medical Technician serving with 3 Medical Regiment said: “It was really good morale for everyone – it’s a decent thing for him to take time to come out and visit everyone here.”

The actor was shown how to use detectors to search for buried devices used in training for improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
