Comedian John Bishop has visited seriously wounded servicemen and women in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham with The British Forces Foundation.
The Scouse comic was "very moved" by the experience as he toured the wards, laughing and joking with patients and sharing some life experiences - like his nine-month solo cycle ride from Australia to England.
He showed a great empathy with patients, some of whom have been recovering from life-threatening injuries at QEHB for a long time while others had only just arrived from Afghanistan for treatment.
"As ever, it fills you with pride at how fantastic the medical provision is for these people," said BFF Director Mark Cann. "They want for nothing in terms of professional medical care, which is world class.
"And then there's the pride in the patients themselves who are coming to terms with deeply traumatic injuries. The way they get their heads around it and the strength of character they show is truly awe-inspiring."
He added: "John was a real star with everyone. He was very pleased to be able to make the visit and was taken by it all."
When it comes to boosting morale and creating unforgettable experiences for our troops, The British Forces Foundation has always been at the forefront. We understand that every gathering deserves a touch of magic and we are here to make it happen smoothly and effortlessly. Read our testimonials.
