10th July 2011

Troops - some only recently returned from the frontline in Afghanistan like those in 30 Signal Regiment - enjoyed two concerts thanks to the legend that is Sir Elton John and The British Forces Foundation. The flamboyant singer generously gave away tickets to his gig in Cardiff and another in Northants so that some 60 Armed Forces servicemen and women could enjoy the show. "We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and felt very special having received the complementary passes," said Lt Cdr Grassy Meadows from HMS Cambria in the Vale of Glamorgan. "Going on Operational Tours is what we do but when your work is appreciated and it also rewards your family then the compliment is even greater." Six members of The Joint Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Regiment in Bury St Edmunds were lucky enough to attend the concert at Northants cricket ground, including SSM Hodson. "The venue was perfect and the show put on was second to none," he said. "Throughout the course of the evening it became apparent that the area we were in had been set aside for Armed Forces personnel and after chatting to plenty of others it was obvious a fantastic night was had by all." Anna Sabin summed up what the gesture from Sir Elton meant when she said: "We had the most wonderful evening and it's an experience we will never forget. What a showman."
