Summer Ball 2011

29th June 2011

Back to News

A trumpet fanfare and a little pomp and ceremony heralded the start of The British Forces Foundation's fantastic 2011 Summer Ball at the beautiful Dorchester Hotel in London. Members of the Scots Guards and the Houshold Cavalry Regiment joined forces to formally get the evening underway after guests had enjoyed a champagne reception on arrival - and the spectacle set the standard for the remainder of a wonderful evening. Great food and ambience was also combined with some fantastic entertainment ensuring the Charity's loyal supporters had a fun time. That support was never more in evidence than when the auctions, raffle and 'BFF Bingo' held throughout the night raised a staggeringly generous £40,000. There was a warm welcome from BFF Founder and Trustee, Jim Davidson OBE, and the Band of the Scots Guards played throughout dinner. It was then the turn of comedian Bobby Davro to take centre stage and he was on top form with his quick-fire quips and singing impressions. After the Loyal Toast by BFF Trustee Admiral Sir James Perowne, the Charity's Director, Mark Cann, brought guests up to date with various projects, including shows for frontline troops, Lap of Honour, the BFF App and the Christmas DVD. He also announced the appointment of Michelle Scrimgeour as a new BFF Trustee, and Tony Lock as an Ambassador. There followed the Loud auction with the auctioneer duties shared between Jim Davidson and Lord Archer - and, after they had worked their magic, they had raised an impressive £29,000. Guests were rewarded with some great music and choreography from The FABBAGIRLS - the number one ABBA tribute act - who instantly had the crowd up on their feet dancing, and ultimately bringing the evening to a fitting close. The 2012 British Forces Foundation Summer Ball will be held on Thursday 5th July at The Dorchester. Book now to avoid disappointment. Email marks@bff.org.uk for details.
