Arfan Razak, owner of Nottingham’s renowned Indian restaurant The Curry Lounge, joined The British Forces Foundation and a host of comedians to honour hundreds of Royal Marines recently returned from active service in Afghanistan.
The event was held for the men of 40 Commando Royal Marines at their base in Taunton, Somerset, just after Remembrance Sunday.
The evening began with a traditional Indian meal prepared by Arfan (better known as Raz) before moving into a transformed assembly hall for the comedians to hit the stage.
The line-up included Canadian Wildman Craig Campbell, the latest hit from Michael McIntyre's most recent Comedy Roadshow, and Kev Orkian, fresh from his triumphant debut at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.
They were joined by the talents of comedy festival award winners Jamie Sutherland and John Warburton.
Mark Cann, Chief Executive of The BFF, added: “Events, such as the one in Taunton, are our way of conveying the gratitude of the British public for the work of the Armed Forces. Those taking part offer their time and talent without charge, which is why it’s fantastic when a chef of Raz’s calibre offer to support us. Troops returning from the front-line often tell us that curry is one of the foods they miss the most, so they were thrilled to be served truly authentic dishes by Raz.”
When it comes to boosting morale and creating unforgettable experiences for our troops, The British Forces Foundation has always been at the forefront. We understand that every gathering deserves a touch of magic and we are here to make it happen smoothly and effortlessly. Read our testimonials.
